Log of Principle Ozone Production Rate on a log contour scale, corresponding to values of 0.1 to 16 ppb/hour. For a large sample of smog data, we find that j x [HCHO], where j is a UV photolysis rate, and [NO] have considerable explanatory power describing the observed production of ozone: j x [HCHO] describes the production of HOO radicals, and [NO] describes the efficiency of conversion of the HO2 radicals to fresh ozone. The use of logarithmic emphasizes that the contours of ozone production based on the flux of carbon, j x [HCHO], and the concentration [NO] approximately form a relationship j x [HCHO] x [NO] = constant. |
