About the SHARE Initiative

The SHARE Initiative was established in response to a Presidential Memorandum which established the Federal Government-wide SHARE Initiative. The President's Initiative requires Government agencies to strive to do more to improve workplace safety and health and reduce the costs of injury to workers and taxpayers. Agencies must establish challenging annual goals to meet the requirements if the President's Memorandum.

The USDA SHARE Initiative has four primary goals:

  1. Lower workplace injury and illness case rates

  2. Lower Lost time Injury and Illness case rates

  3. Timely reporting of injuries and illnesses

  4. Fewer lost work days as a result of injuries and illnesses

The Department's Safety and Health and Workers' Compensation staff at all agency levels will work together to esdevelop new workplace strategies and improve the safety and health at high injury sites, report claims in a timely manner, and encourage effective return-to-work efforts.

Supervisors and managers must focus management tools and resources on elimination unsafe and unhealth working conditions, and support return-to-work efforts.

All employees must perform their jobs safely, effectively, and alertly to prevent injuries and illnesses.

If you have questions about the USDA SHARE Initiative, contact your agency's safety and health manager and/or workers' compensation program manager.
