Minutes of the ICD meeting at UTA (with FNAL and LT by phone) Thursday 5-Feb-98 1:30 pm Send corrections to Elizabeth Gallas ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEXT MEETING IS FRIDAY the 13th ! 1:30pm ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The dates for a meeting in Arlington have been set: We will meet February 23-25, 1998. Elizabeth will be available Monday-Friday. From Louisiana: Lee, Dick (Mon & part Tue) and Jon and/or Derek should be able to make it. Lee needs to be back by Friday to teach a class. Everyone should send Andy email detailing their travel plans so he can schedule a a solenoid test plans meeting and a calibration planning meeting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Issues leftover from this week's meeting are: ELIZABETH check with dean on readout electronics for solenoid test KAUSHIK send run I base test QA procedures and a few examples of tests to Lee VICTOR report on number of fiber connectors needed of each type (including at least 20% spares) to order from DDK? PAUL full prototype could include light distribution systems for laser and/or led system. status any spare blue LEDs (lee needs some) ? VICTOR/PAUL integration of the calibration fibers in the backplane for the full prototype test ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ANDY Andy reports having made contact with Dave Steadelman at Bicron. The price of the scintillator has remained constant but the previously reported production/delivery lag has ballooned to 12-16 weeks. We should get the order in as soon as possible. Tomorrow morning 10am, the UTA contingent will meet in the swift center for designation of distinct areas for D0 ICD and Atlas module production. They'll also look at the noise problem with the module test stand. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- JIA LI The prototype fiber backplane has been taken to SWIS. Jia Li reports that SWIS is done with 2 iron blocks and the next 2 should be done next week. SWIS will paint the blocks before delivering them to the Swift Center. For next week, we expect minimally to get at least 1 block and the fiber backplane. Jia Li says the rough cut bit is working on the connector polisher, still waiting on the diamond bit, which is expected to be shipped tomorrow. Jia is also looking at a new module box design - made of plastic (black). Kaushik is concerned about thickness. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- LEE Lee reported that Jonathan has completed the test setup for the bases and found extremely clean signals. they used 2 stages of amplification. Signals are clean and in time with led pulser signals. The test setup including the base and the preamp card are still in progress. LT now has pictures showing the fiber cable transmission at high resolution from the CCD camera. They hope to get a measure of light loss per meter by putting all the cables together. Pictures will be posted on the WWW on the Run II ICD home page. Brian Anderson is a student working on the layout of the drawer faces. The signal cable out of the drawer faces for the full prototype will be a lemo type connector rather than the eventual 26 line T&F. Lee reports that nearly all components are ready for the full prototype test. Electronics required: need lv power supplies - UTA has some need 12 channels positive HV - may be able to use the fnal cow or get a bunch of tubes that are voltage matched well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- MARK Mark found some 1/2" Plexiglas for the wrapping prototype. He will airborn it to FNAL today. Good thing I waited to type up the minutes since the huge noise problem has mysteriously disappeared. The folk dance and dose-E-doe around the test stand must have done the trick. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- VICTOR Victor will come up with a count of all the connector pieces that we will need for the full detector. When we are sure of the numbers, we should go ahead with the order. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ELIZABETH/JIA Elizabeth and Jia Li are working on a note on fiber polishing techniques. Jia Li will be trying ice polishing and/or Teflon block polishing when the diamond bit is delivered. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SONG/KAUSHIK Kaushik reports that the PMT tester not ready yet. and the 12 tubes for the full prototype test have not been selected yet. In the tester, they have hooked up the HV, pulser, and adc's, but not done yet. They may be done before the prototype test. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- KAUSHIK/OBI/MINH Run 1 box test are ongoing. KD saw saw plots today but slight modifications underway. They are still trying to understand what is going on. The PC that the box tester is using needs to be used by the module test stand - both tests cannot continue simultaneously. Box testing is over half done - it would be nice to get this done so the management can check it off the list. It would also be nice to be end of month so that the PC can be dedicated to the module tests. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
