Description/Abstract An automatic transmission is described having a C.V.T. system for a vehicle, comprising: a coupling means having an input shaft and an output shaft; a belt type continuously-variable speed transmission system having an input pulley mounted coaxially on a first shaft, an output pulley mounted coaxially on a second shaft and a belt extending between the first and second pulleys to transfer power; a planetary gear mechanism having a first planetary gear set, a second planetary gear set, an input shaft disposed coaxially with and rotatably coupled at one end thereof with the second shaft of the belt type continuously-variable speed transmission system and connected at the other end concentrically with the first sun gear, an output shaft disposed coaxially with the input shaft and connected at one end concentrically with the second planetary carrier, a first intermediate shaft disposed concentrically with and radially outward in connection with the input shaft and connected at one end with the first ring gear and the second sun gear and a second intermediate shaft disposed concentrically with and between the input shaft and the first intermediate shaft in a radial direction and connected at one end with the first planetary carrier and the second ring gear; and a forward-reverse changeover mechanism having one and single shift lever and one and single sleeve.
