Subsurface Impurities in Pd(111) Studied by STM

STM movies illustrating dynamic properties of subsurface impurities and adsorbates on Pd(111):

• Subsurface impurity diffusion for a nominally clean Pd(111) surface at various tempuratures:
• 215K
• 220K
• 225K
• 230K
• 240K
• 250K
• 260K

• CO interaction with subsurface impurities:
• clustering and thermal diffusion at 60K (~0.04 ML coverage)
• stabilization of (sqrt3-sqrt3)-R30 CO by subsurface impurities at 190K

• O interaction with subsurface impurities:
• O islands at 205K
