History and Area of Responsibility
The Scobey Sub-Station is under the direct supervision of the Patrol Agent in Charge at the Plentywood Montana Station. There are currently 8 Senior Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Scobey Station, under the direction of two Supervisory Border Patrol Agents.

A new building has been constructed to house the Scobey Station. Since September 11, 2001, the station has seen an increase in manpower and resources. Additional space is needed to house this expansion.

The border area covered by the Plentywood and Scobey Stations was set up as sub-offices in 1924 and existed as such until the early 1930's. There was an Officer In Charge stationed in Scobey along with a clerk and Patrol Agents stationed in most of the small border towns. The complement for Patrol Agents ran about as follows: two in Westby, one in Comertown, one in Dooley, one in Raymond, one in Outlook, two to three in Plentywood, two in Whitetail, two in Scobey, and two in Opheim. Records show that in the fall of 1931 the station at Whitetail was closed with one officer going to Opheim and one to Plentywood.

About 1933 the sub-offices were closed and the stations placed under the Chief Patrol Agent at Havre, Montana. The stations at Westby, Comertown, Dooley, Raymond, Outlook and Opheim were closed with Plentywood and Scobey remaining. The complement of each station was two to three men with one being a Patrol Agent In Charge. Scobey was closed in 1948 and Plentywood remained with a complement of two, three or four men until 1953. There was but one officer stationed at Plentywood from 1953 to 1955.

The Wolf Point Station, with a complement of one Patrol Agent In Charge and three Patrol Agents, was established January 1, 1956. In November 1959 an additional Patrol Agent position was authorized and two of the Patrol Agents were relocated at Plentywood, under the supervision of the Patrol Agent In Charge at Wolf Point. In 1987 the Wolf Point Station was closed and relocated in Scobey. The Patrol Agent In Charge position was relocated at Plentywood. The Scobey, Montana station became operational in 1987. It replaced the Wolf Point, Montana Station and moved operations approximately 50 miles closer to the border. The Scobey Station was authorized two Border Patrol Agents until 1996 when there was one agent until 1998. In 2002 one additional Senior Patrol Agent was authorized and was stationed at Scobey. In 2003, eight additional Senior Patrol Agents were stationed at Scobey along with one Supervisory Border Patrol Agent.

The station boundaries are described as follows:

From the Port of Entry at Opheim east for 50 miles along the International Border to the Port of Entry of Whitetail; South along a line beginning at the Port of Entry at Whitetail and continuing south to Biddle Montana and extending to the Montana/Wyoming state line West along the Montana/Wyoming state line to the Big Horn County line; North following the eastern boundary of Big Horn County to Interstate 94; East on 1-94 to Forsyth; Northwest on Highway 12 to Musselshell River; North on the Musselshell to the Garfield County line; following Garfield County east and north to the intersection of highways 200 and 24; North on 24 across Ft. Peck Dam and continuing northward back to the Port of Entry at Ophiem.

The local population in the immediate station areas is less than 10,000 people. The area adjacent to the border with Canada is also sparsely populated. Regina, with a population of 175,000 is southern Saskatchewan's major population center. Regina is approximately 100 miles north of both Plentywood and Scobey.

In relation to Sector Headquarters Scobey is 270 miles east of Havre.
