From: Linda Ruth [LRuth@singlecopysales.com] Sent: Monday, March 26, 2001 9:22 AM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket 00N-1396 & Docket 00D-1598 To whom it may concern: Please keep the wishes of the consumer in mind as you create regulations on GE foods. It is absolutely beyond belief, whatever members' personal interests may be, that they would feel that they can violate consumer wishes with such impunity. This is a democracy, and if attention is only paid to financially powerful special interests you must expect an enormous backlash. Please note: * The FDA should require mandatory pre-market comprehensive environmental review of GE products. * The FDA should require mandatory pre-market long-term health testing. * The FDA MUST require mandatory labeling of GE products. Whatever the FDA, led by its biotech allies, believes, it is not up to them to choose for us. Rightly or wrongly, consumers have to be allowed to make their own choices. * The FDA MUST end its cozy relationship with the industries it purports to be regulating. The appearance of conflict of interest is unbelievable, and totally undermines the credibility of the FDA. If the conflict is not there, avoid the appearance. Sincerely, Linda Ruth
