Cibola National Forest
Summary: The Cibola National Forest is 1,625,542 acres in size. Elevation: 5,000'-11,301'. Includes the Datil, Gallinas, Magdalena, Bear, Manzano, Sandia, San Mateo, and Zuni Mountains. Sandia Mountain, Monzano Mountain, Withington, ans Apache Kid Wildernesses in central New Mexico. Also includes national grasslands in northeastern New Mexico, western Oklahoma, and northwestern Texas, containing 263,954 acres.

Sevilleta Long-Term Ecological Research Program
Summary: The University of New Mexico's Sevilleta Long-Term Ecological Research Program (LTER) in the central Rio Grande Basin is one of the U.S. National Science Foundation's LTER Network sites. Studies at the Sevilleta examine the responses of ecosystems to environmental changes. The Sevilleta LTER Program is located at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in Socorro County, NM, but researchers also utilize areas in Cibola National Forest, Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, El Malpais National Monument, and Bandelier National Monument. These varied study sites include a wide range of ecosystem types, including Chihuahuan Desert, Great Plains Grassland, Great Basin Shrub-Steppe, Piņon-Juniper Woodland, Bosque Riparian Forests and Wetlands, Ponderosa Pine Forests, Mixed-Conifer Montane Forests, and Sub-alpine Forests and Meadows.
