Regional background:

The City of Omsk is at the center of the huge Western Siberian region with more than 13 million people which encompass one of the largest energy producing zones of the world including the giant West Siberian oil province and the Kuznetsk coal basin.  The City of Omsk is the best spot to begin to access these energy industries and, in itself, a major refiner of oil and producer of petrochemicals, machinery, environmental services, and food products.

The Western Siberian region includes the large Russian Oblasts of Omsk, Tomsk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, and Kuznetsk coal basin and the heavily industrial northern regions of Kazakhstan.  Omsk is its transportation hub where the Trans-Siberian Rail Road crosses he Irtysh River and airline and oil pipelines converge.  Closeness to southern border makes it a major staging point for trade with Central Asia and China.  A new international airport is under construction.
