Throughout the year, but most especially in the summer, Sen. DeMint's D.C. office plays host to several interns looking to experience life in our nation's capital. Most hale from South Carolina, while a few trickle in from other parts of the country. Over the next few days we plan to spotlight the interns who have joined our staff for the month of June. First up, Davis Acker of Pickens, S.C.:
Hello everyone! After spending the summer in D.C. two years ago, I truly became hooked on politics. I could not have been more excited to get back to this wonderful city, and now I know my time here will be all the more amazing thanks to Sen. DeMint’s awesome staff. These first weeks back in Washington have only deepened my interest for all things political.
Specifically, I am very interested in foreign relations. At Clemson, I am majoring in history with a minor in Russian-area studies. The history, political science, and language classes that I have taken over my three completed years at Clemson, along with my experiences in Washington, are all in preparation for a career at the State Department or the United Nations. Sen. DeMint sits on the Senate Committee for Foreign Relations, and therefore, I am able to sit in on hearings and see just how the process works. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work in this office and I know that my experiences this summer will be wonderful assets for my future.
