Washington, DC— As football season draws to a close, Senators Tim Johnson (D-SD) and Max Baucus (D-MT) have placed a friendly wager on the NAIA National Championship game between the University of Sioux Falls Cougars and the Carroll College Fighting Saints. The two schools will face off in a rematch of last year’s title game on Saturday, December 20th in Rome, Georgia.
Senator Johnson is banking on a Cougar victory and has wagered South Dakota beef jerky, while Senator Baucus has faith the Fighting Saints will repeat last year’s win and has wagered Montana beer on the game.
"I am confident the Cougars will avenge last year’s loss, and bring the national championship trophy back home to South Dakota. I look forward toasting the University of Sioux Falls’ victory with a Montana beer courtesy of Senator Baucus,” Johnson said.
“I’m really looking forward to this game, both teams are fantastic. Of course, I have no doubt the Saints will come out on top,” Baucus said. “And I look forward to enjoying some South Dakota beef jerky, real soon!”
Both schools are familiar with the national championship spotlight. The University of Sioux Falls won the NAIA Championship in 2006, and this will be their third-straight title game appearance. Carroll College will make its sixth appearance in seven years.
Sioux Falls residents can listen to the game live on KWSN AM 1230 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20th.
