Partners with the Extension Safety Specialist in research,
program planning and implementation, and regional and
county-wide safety program presentations. Principle Investigator
on funded projects; 1) to facilitate and evaluate the
development of the Agricultural Safety and Health - Network
(ASH-NET, www.ash-net.org) and 2) to perform overall evaluation
of Teaching Agricultural Safety to Kids (TASK), a program
of the Illinois Easter Seal Society to train teenagers
to present agricultural and rural safety material to elementary
school students. Research emphases, in addition to the
above, continues in the better understanding of intentions,
beliefs and behaviors of farmers towards specific health
and safety concerns using a behavioral psychology theory
base, the effects of community development processes in
facilitating rational and well informed community-based
efforts in staging agricultural safety and health interventions,
and compiling injury and fatality data.
