DESCRIPTION OF MENU BAR ITEMS

RESERVE INSTRUMENT
You must enter your name, or the instruments user's name, into the Instrument User field. You can enter a comment about the experiment, but this is optional. An instrument (Dimension 3100 AFM or Hitatchi S47000 SEM), date, and beginning and ending times must be selected from the lists presented. An error message will inform you if the instrument is not available at the desired time. If the reservation is successful, an e-mail message will be sent to the Instrument Master (Gyula Eres).

CANCEL RESERVATION
The input for this option is similar to that of the RESERVE option. You can cancel any reservation that you have made. Instrument Masters can cancel anybody's reservations. The Instrument Master(s) will receive notification by email, unless they have specified otherwise.

BROWSE BY INSTRUMENT
You may examine the schedule for a selected instrument for a specified date. First select the instrument. A calendar will be posted for the month. Use the < to go back one month and the > to go forward one month. Then select the day. The instrument and date selected will be passed to the RESERVE or CANCEL items, so that you will only have to enter the time of the meeting (and, in the case of making a reservation, the instrument user and, optionally, the event). When a reservation or cancellation is made, the instrument and date information is forgotten by the application until another browse is done.

The legend above and below the date indicates instrument usage. A vertical bar indicates the instrument has been scheduled. A dot indicates the instrument is available. Some instruments have not been scheduled or browsed yet, these have no legend, indicating that all times are available. The legend above the day represents the morning schedule (7 A.M. to 11:30 A. M.). The legend below the day represents the afternoon schedule (12:00 Noon to 5:30 P.M.). The dots or vertical bars are drawn in half hour intervals, with a red bar for on the hour and a green bar for on the half hour. This is just meant to be a visual clue as to general availability. Click on the desired day to see the schedule in detail and to "select" the instrument and date for your desired action (reserve or cancel).

BROWSE ALL
You may examine the schedules for all instruments for a specified date. Select the monthly calendar and then the day. As with BROWSE BY INSTRUMENT, the date selected will be passed to the RESERVE and CANCEL items. Since only one instrument can be scheduled, the BROWSE ALL function is redundant with the BROWSE function.

An instrument reservation is indicated using a "R" in the time slot, with a red "R" for on the hour and a green "R" for on the half hour as for the BROWSE feature. Click on the instrument name to get the detailed schedule and to "select" the instrument and date for your desired action (reserve or cancel).
