AMOS J. LOVEDAY, JR. NAMED CULTURAL RESOURCE SPECIALIST FOR THE WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU’S COMMERCIAL WIRELESS DIVISION Washington, D. C. – Dr. Amos J. Loveday, Jr. has been named Cultural Resource Specialist in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau’s Commercial Wireless Division. As the Bureau’s Cultural Resource Specialist, Loveday will immediately become an integral part of the Commission’s environmental review process for facilities siting issues. He will focus on assessing whether tower and/ or antenna siting projects proposed by those who do business with the Commission comply with requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (“ NHPA”), the National Environmental Policy Act of 1970, the rules of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (“ ACHP”), and the Commission’s rules. In addition, he will assist the Commission in establishing a closer working relationship with the States, Indian Tribes, and Native Hawaiian Organizations. Prior to joining the Commission, Loveday served as Ohio’s State Historic Preservation Officer, a position that has responsibility for overseeing reviews performed for federal undertakings under Section 106 of the NHPA. Prior to that he worked from 1981- 1995 as the Chief Curator of the Ohio Historical Society, which runs numerous museums and historic sites across Ohio. Additionally, during the past 18 months Loveday has represented the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers on the ACHP’s Telecommunications Working Group (“ Working Group”). The Working Group, which includes representatives of the FCC, ACHP, State Historic Preservation Officers, Indian Tribes, industry, and cultural resource consultants, was formed to address issues and develop administrative solutions relating to the historic preservation review of communications facilities.
