The precipita- tion was uniforinly light over the White River Basin; the amounts from 21 stations averaged 1.30 inch, being about 3.5 inclies I)elow the norinal. Over tlie valleys of the Yazoo and the Big BIac.k, thr precipitation from 2s stations averaged 0.58 inrh mid t l i (b rleficicmcy was 5.5 inches. There was generally het\vecn 1 inch ant1 2 inches of precipitation over the Ouachita \'alley; the ainouiits from 19 stations averaged 1.54 inch, being nlmut 4.2 inches I J ~O W the normal. Average monthly precipitation and departures from the nor- mal for the various States ancl areas are reported as follows: ('o1or:ido area, 0.53, -0.01; Ncw Mesico area, 0.19, -0.33; Tesss nrcn, 0.S0, -1.63; Kansas area, 0.12, -1.43; Oklahoma, U.43, - 1.53; hlissoiiri area, 1.10, -:3.01; Tennessee area, 0.84, -4.30; Arkansas, 1.30, -3.68; Plfississippi area, 0.67, -5.39; Louibiana, 1.19, -3.58. SNOWFILL. Pllotlerately heavy snow fell in tlie inouiitainous portions of tlic C'olorattlo ani1 New PIlcsico areas, and light snowfall was gcwral over the Missouri area, antl the eastern portion of the Kansas area. Aside from this no snow fell in the district, except a trace at one station in Arkansas and small amounts at 2 statiiJiis in tlic Texas Panhandle. The warm weather during the iiionth caused a rapid settling of tlie snow at high altitudes, and the thawing hy clay and freezing by night rapidly solidified the drifts. The outlook for a flow of irrigation water, above the average amount, was escellent at the close of the month. The average snowfall (in inches) for the various States ancl :ireas during tlic nionth, ax derived froin the records of such statioos as reporte(l snow, is as follows: C'olorado area, 9.1; New h1esic.o area, 2.2; Kansas area, 0.1; Missouri area, 0.4; Texas area, trace; Arkansas, trace. RIVERS. No flood occurred in the Arkansas, White, Red, and Ouachita rivers, and all streams were low at the close of the month. Below St. Louis, the Mississippi was rising at all stations at the opening of the nionth. The flood stage was reached at Meni- phis on the l'ith, and the stage was 33.1 feet on the 18th and 1'3th. Reports from Kansas state that farni ancl l>uilcling operations progressed uninterruptedly during the month. Early peaches, pears, plums, and apricots were in blossom, and shacle trees were leafing at the close of the month. The Reclamation Record for April, 1910, reports the Kansas Garden City Project! (98 per cent complet*ed) : “The work on the Garden City Project during the month of March consisted of overhauling the machinery in the power ])lant0 and l~ini11 houses and preparing it, for an inclefinite periotl of disuse.” Mr. Charles F. Rudolph, of Rociado, N. Mes., states: “ Un- usually warm weather during the month nieltcil the snow in the mountains and the streams were all running full, cliniinisliing summer water supply.’’ As a rule, farmers sniudgecl their orchards, thereby saving sonie thou- sands of dollars. Navi- gation on the Arkansm River wan practically suspended aft csr March 17 on account of low water. Tulia, Tes., reports a hard freeze on the 31st.
