Diane Hark's Ornament for the 2008 White House Christmas Tree
Philadelphia’s award-winning artist Diane Hark has been selected to design an ornament for the 2008 White House Christmas tree, which will be publicly unveiled today by First Lady Laura Bush. The Christmas tree will feature ornaments from across the nation and will be on display in the White House’s historic Blue Room. The theme of this year’s Christmas tree is “A Red, White and Blue Christmas.”

For Pennsylvania’s ornament this year, Ms. Hark has painted a replica of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell and the Mummers, all underneath the words “We The People” signifying Pennsylvania and Philadelphia’s unforgettable mark on the origin of our country.

Ms. Hark is a nationally recognized and award-winning artist. She has written many articles and taught several workshops to promote her love of color and nature. Ms. Hark is a Signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, the Missouri Watercolor Society, Philadelphia Sketch Club, Allied Artists of America, Tri/State Artists Equity, and a board member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. She is an alumni member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Art. She exhibits regularly in galleries throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. More information regarding Ms. Hark’s work can be found on her website (www.dianeharkart.com).

On Tuesday, Ms. Hark visited the White House for a special viewing of the Christmas Tree. She is available for comment regarding her experience with this national tradition.
