Daily Debrief
From Paul Alivisatos, Interim Director
We finished the second day of field collection phase of the HSS review Tuesday. The reviewers are finding many good practices at the activity level, and our staff have been very cooperative and responsive. Here are some items I would like to bring to your attention:
- Chemical management is a generic issue being investigated by multiple reviewers. Chemical users and owners need to ensure that all hazardous materials in their original containers are in the Chemical Management System
(http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/chsp/html/procure_trans.shtml#ChemInv). Proper segregation of chemicals and secondary containment for all hazardous liquids is also required.
- If a glove becomes contaminated while you are using it, change it! The gloves guides and information in the Chemical Hygiene and Safety Plan ( http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/chsp/html/materials.shtml#PPEV ) should be consulted for the proper selection of gloves.
- If you submit a Work Request as a result of an HSS inspection, please add the word HSSQF in the "Short description of the work (50 characters)" box. This will allow Facilities to identify and track these items.
