MULTI-INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH COORDINATION GROUP AWARDS:

Fields of Study: Plant Biology
Purpose of Study: To facilitate open communication and exchange of information and resources, to integrate research activities of scientists working independently on topics of common interest .
Eligibility: Applicants must be citizens of the U.S.. Non-U.S. researchers may participate but will be funded through their own national program.
Financial Provisions: Annual budget in the range of $60,000.

INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM:

Fields of Study: Research in biomedical or behavioral sciences.
Purpose of Study: To provide opportunities for scientists from developing countries who are in the formative phase (no more than 10 years beyond the doctorate) of their career to extend their research experience in a laboratory in the United States.
Eligibility: Applicants must not be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents, and must hold a doctoral degree or the equivalent in a health science field at the time of award; have earned the doctoral degree within ten years of the application receipt date; and have a sponsor in the U.S. at a non-profit institution who has agreed to accept the applicant for research on applicant's proposed project. Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Financial Provisions: Stipends range from $22,000 to $32,300 depending on the number of years experience; round-trip travel for the fellow only.
Duration: 1 to 2 years.

PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES:

Fields of Study: Cell biology, immunology, genetics, neurosciences, and structural biology.
Purpose of Study: To support outstanding students in the biomedical sciences to pursue a Ph.D. or Sc.D.
Eligibility: Citizenship unrestricted. Fellowships who are not U.S. citizens or nationals may study only at U.S. institutions. Fellows who are U.S. citizens or nationals may study in the United States or abroad. Must be at the beginning of graduate studies.
Financial Provisions: Stipend of $14,500 per year and educational allowance of $14,000.
Duration: 3 years with option to extend for 2 more years. There are 12 months per fellowship year, and the fellowship years must be consecutive.

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM:

Fields of Study: Life sciences.
Purpose of Study: To provide training and support of the highest quality young scientists in the best research environment.
Eligibility: Applicants must have an M.A., Ph.D. or equivalent degree. All U.S. citizens are eligible with no geographic restrictions. Foreign applicants will be eligible for study in U.S. laboratories only. Research must be at non-profit institutions.
Financial Provisions: $35,000 per annum which will cover stipend, travel, and research expenses.

Fields of Study: Life Sciences (not Agriculture per se) including all disciplines at University of Michigan.
Purpose of Study: To promote academic and creative excellence. Awards are for individuals selected for outstanding achievements, professional promise, and interdisciplinary interests. Fellows are appointed as Assistant Professors or Research Scholars in the Michigan Society of Fellows.
Eligibility: Citizenship is unrestricted. Candidates should be near the beginning of their professional careers and possess a Ph.D. degree or one comparable.
Financial Provisions: Stipend of $32,500 per year.
Duration: 3-year terms beginning September 1, 1995.

RESIDENT RESEARCH ASSOCIATESHIP AWARDS:

Fields of Study: All areas of theoretical and applied fundamental sciences, including health sciences, clinical research, environmental sciences, plant physiology and biotechnology.
Purpose of Study: To provide postdoctoral scientists and engineers opportunities to conduct research in residence at one of participating U.S. government laboratories.
Eligibility: Citizenship is unrestricted. Applicants must hold Ph.D., Sc.D., or equivalent and must have demonstrated superior ability for creative research.
Financial Provisions: Stipend of $30,000 to $45,500 for Research Associates and an approximately higher stipend for Senior Associates, relocation reimbursement, and limited professional travel during tenure of associateship.
