1. A method for passivating a metallic surface comprising:
providing a metallic surface;
selecting at least one solvent from the group of terpenes;
selecting at least one polymer from the group of poly[bis(2,5-(N,N,N′,N′-tetraalkyl)amino)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] polymers;
solubilizing said at least one polymer in said at least one solvent to form a polymeric composition;
contacting the metallic surface with the polymeric composition to form a passivating region.
