EDUARDO
Last Friday morning and afternoon, Molina and I pulled 2 green cables from
PW08 to MCH third floor, and finished pulling 5 Reynold cables from MCH222
to PW08. Right after we pulled the second green cable the bridge was
closed.
The important considerations are:
1) Delmar put a pipe in the middle lane of the bridge, with a rope inside,
so that we can still pull the remaining cables. Its VERY IMPORTANT that we
always pull another rope with the cable, so that the rope is always
replaced, otherwise it will be almost impossible to pull the cable through
the pipe, and we would look pretty dumb for doing so. I think it will be
important also that we put our cables as soon as possible through the
pipe, before someone else does it!
2) The green cables were not labeled, but can be identified. The leftover
of the second cable pulled is tied on the leftover of the first one. One
end of the first one is tied on the top of PW08 rack, and the other end at
the internal border of the cooper trunk located at the external platform
of MCH third floor.
3) It took us 2 hours to pull the first green cable, and 1 hour to pull
the second. Only one cable at a time must be pulled, and it has to be
unroled and untwisted before pulling, otherwise it will get entangled. If
there are more people working at the detector, cable pulling can be
unpredictably time consuming. We were pretty luck at the second cable, as
our activity kind of synchronized with the others.
4) Only one segment of Reynold cable was needed to go from MCH222 to PW08.
Although only 4 cables were needed (even three would do the job), one
extra spare cable was added. However, not all cables reach the top of PW08
rack, one reached only half the rack. Before installing the HV fan-out, a
scheme of the rack components location must be elaborated taking this fact
into account.
Monday morning Molina and I (Eduardo) went to the tunnel and finished
the green cable setup on the anti-proton side. A bunch of 6 green cables
is laying on the floor near the entrance to D0. They are not labeled,
and must be tested and labeled before being pulled to D0.
The green cables are for Emergency, Driver, LMB, and Spare. They are
laid as:
Function From To
EMERG D0 DIPOLE
DRIVER D0 DIPOLE
LMB D0 DIPOLE
LMB D0 A1
LMB D0 A2
DRIVER DIPOLE A2
EMERG DIPOLE A2
DRIVER A2 A1
EMERG A2 A1
SPARE D0 DIPOLE

I would like to clarify the use of emergency lines from the Control
Room, explaining what I understood in order to be corrected if necessary.
We will have two green coaxial cables carrying 0 or +5V, one will end
at the IIB, our index interface, to remove the Roman Pots out of the beam.
The other will cut the power of the Step Motor Drivers, ending at their
Power Boxes additional control input BNC connector. There is a type of
Power Boxes that one can control four Step Motor Drivers and they can be
modified to receive an optical decoupled additional control input as shown
at
http://D0server1.fnal.gov/users/mariovaz/Fpd/Pboxcontrol.jpg
if the above assumption is correct.
The 1553 Rack Monitor Interface - RM, will control everything of the
FPD electronics in Tevatron, including all Power Boxes, these with the
same level of priority of the smoke detector, and also through the Rack
Monitor Interface - RMI. We have now 5 of those, one for each FPD rack
inside Tevatron, I got the missing 2 from Ed Arko last Friday.
I went today (12/feb) with Ed Podschweit to examine the possibility of
alternative routes for our cables from the MCH. We concluded that could be
possible to pass the cables after the bridge to the right instead of
left, looking into Tevatron, bringing them by the right wall, part go to
the tunnel, part will progress by the tray to the other side of Collision
Hall to the other side of the Tevatron tunnel. The reason to do that is to
avoid interference in D0 electronics, especially calorimeter electronics,
with noise picked up by our cables inside Tevatron. This would complement
our work in shielding our cables inside Tevatron, that we need to reduce
noise that can corrupt our signals. That is it can be better both to D0
and FPD.
Sergio, Eduardo, Christophe, Oguri and I went to the platforms to examine
this possibility and also the passing of our cables under the platform. We
concluded that we have both possibilities. But the alternative routing
need to be discussed with Marvin, Delmar and Ed.
It is good to use just one segment of Reynold cable to reach PW08 from
MCH222. The cables will come from the bottom, the HV Fanout will be closer
to the bottom and fixed in the middle of the rack, to receive the Reinold
cables without having them going out of the rack. So it is ok that :
The scheme is the following: HV Fanout on the bottom, the AFE rack will
be on the top of the PW08, below the point the flat ribbon cables will
enter to go to the backplane, followed by the flexible circuit that will
be connected to the Cin::Apse connectors on the top of the AFE. Less than
half of the rack will be needed for that, the rest of PW08 space will be
enough to receive the Reynold cables, red RF58 cables and other FPD cables
that pass there. Do not forget we have the ODH box cables crossing the
lower part of PW08, it is necessary to bring those cables close to the
side panel, they are wasting too much of our small space available at
PW08.

Here is the first version of the cable database. Of course it will be
updated each time we lay a new cable or connect it.
DATABASE FOR FPD CABLES:
==========================
1) Ribbon cables from detector to amplifier boards:
====================================================
Nomenclatura: RF-**-* RF like ribbon flat + bunch number + cable number
7 cables needed per detector, which means 7*18=126 cables needed
one spare per detector, which means: 144 cables
there are two kinds of cables (6 or 12 m long).

2) Ribbon cable from amplifier boards to PW08
===============================================
Nomenclatura: RC-**-* R like ribbon + bunch number + cable number Cables
are going from PW08 to the castles. We need one bunch of 7 cables for P1
and A1, and two bunches for P2, A2, D1, D2. there are two kinds of cables
with a different delay time of 10 ns (blue or grey). This gives the
nominal route of the cables. Once the connections are done, a star is
added close to the cable name.

PS; these shifts will be mainly in the tunnel. People should meet in the
Tevatron control room at about 12:30 to exchange keys. The numbers
refer to different activities explained below. Lionel will spend much
of his time in the tunnel installing the electronics, he is not quoted
on shift but will be there as a third person, if this is needed to do
something special on one day.
Activities:
==========
(1) Finish green cables in tunnel (both p and pbar side). Lionel and
Christophe will bring the black cables in the tunnel / small control
room in the evening.
(2) This is a day without computer, so everybody is on shift...!
Lionel, Christophe, Sergio: test of ribbon cables in tunnel +
electronics
Molina, Eduardo + help???: in collision hall, start pulling
cables to small control room, or large control room: 1553, ribbon,
green, TV
Hans, Victor : in tunnel, finish HV cables (P1 and P2 side), then
start pulling black cables (help from Lionel might be required)
(3) Pull black cables in tunnel + collision hall (should go to PW08)
(4) Finish tests of red, green cables and labels. Label few ribbon cables
with destroyed labels
(5) Pull black cables in collision hall. Lionel starts preparing the small
low voltage cables for the LMB at LAB 3.
(6) Pull black and green cables in collsion hall.
(7) Pull black cables in tunnel - Start tests of pot moving remotely.
Here is the status concerning cabling and detector activities on the
14-15/02, to be discussed tomorrow at the meeting. We aim to get D1, D2,
P1 up, and P2 up fully equipped with electronics before March 1. D0 will
start closing its detector next Monday, and this means for us much less
accesses possible in the collsion hall. We should aim to get everything
ready in the collision hall before Sunday, and before the 1st of March in
the tunnel. The activities with '***' are needed before Monday.
Cable laying/testing in tunnel:
==============================
- Ribbon cables: needed to be connected together and tested in the tunnel.
Two bunches of ribbon cables have to be tested and connected to P1 up and
P2 up cables in the collision hall (***)
- HV cables: tested and labelled, only the ones going to P2 still need to
be labelled in the collision hall (***). The HV cables (at least for D1,
D2, P1 up, P2up, L0) have to be connected to the Reynolds cables in the
collision hall (***). The last bunch for P1 (5 cables) will be pulled into
the collsion hall (PW08) tomorrow morning.
- green 5 V cables: tested and labelled. The P side cable will be pulled
to the small control room tomorrow.
- emergency line cables: tested and labelled. The P side cable will be
pulled to the small control room tomorrow.
- 1553 cables: tested, labelled, arrived in the main control room. The
power PC, and the 1553 interface has to be brought from LAB6. It is
however not clear where it fits into Mike Begel's rack.
- Camera RG 59 cables: installed. The connectors will be put by the
camera people. We need to fix priorities for the camera and may be it is
possible to have D1, D2, P1, and P2 equipped for March, and A1 and A2
later on.
- L0 black cables in tunnel: need to be put in tunnel, will be started
tomorrow afternoon (***). We need 3 cables going to D1, D2, and 6
cables going to P2. They need to go to PW08.
NB: up to now, we pull 6 L0 cables to P2. If no other cables arrive before
March 1, it will be divided into 3 cables to P2 and 3 cables to P1 (L0 for
P1 up, P1 in, P1 down, P2 up, P2 down, LMB P2) The other black cables are
ordered, but did not arrive yet. Also a blanket to wrap the black cables
in the tunnel should be ordered.
- Temporary green cables for L0 trigger (***): they will be pulled
tomorrow morning. They need to be connected to the black cable before
Sunday (***). The scheme is as follows:
black cable D1 ---> green cable
D2 ---> green cable
P1 up ---> green cable
P2 up ---> green cable
P2 down ---> green cable
P1 down ---> green cable
P1 in ---> green cable
These new green cables need to be tested and labelled (***).
NB: It is finally easier to use one green cable per black cable than
building an interface to a ribbon cable at it was thought before.
- Black cable for LMB in tunnel: one is put to P2 and will be connected
temporally to a green cable in the collision hall (***) going to the
small control room. This green cable should be tested and labelled (***)
- Green cable for LMBs in tunnel: all tested, labelled in tunnel. The P2
cable needs to be connected to a green cable in the collision hall to the
small control room (***). It needs to be labelled and tested.
- Black cables for L0 between PW08 and movable counting house: ordered,
but not arrived
- Green cables for LMBs between PW08 and movable counting house: 2 are
laid, still 4 need to be laid.
- Reynolds cables: done
Detector installation:
======================
The driver crates are basically installed at D1, D2, P1 and A1. Some
metallic support structure is needed for A2 and P2 and should be done if
possible before March 1. The rack for the amplifier boards are installed
at D1-D2, and P1. We need another additional one for P2, and it will be
done next week. We need to find power supplies (+5 V, 3A; +/- 10 V, 12 A;
+/- 15V, 3A). We want to put two detectors fully equipped at P1 up, P2 up.
To do this one must replace the 3 meter long ribbon cables in one
detector by 12 meter long ones which can reach the amplifier board rack at
P2. We are still missing the encoders for P2. We should test the pot
remote control next week, as well as the HV power supplies. We need to
install one LMB at P2.
MIKE MARTENS
The latest schedule for the Tevatron is as follows:
February 28th - Secure the Tev tunnel
March 1st - Begin Tev power supply testing.
~ March 5th - First beam in Tev
Also, starting next week the BD will begin stacking the shielding blocks
next to the ODH wall. This may limit our access to that area (working on
pots is still OK.) They will leave a hole where our cables go so that we
can pull cables in the future, but near the end of the shutdown the whole
will be filled with sandbags.
Starting on Monday there will be a status/planning meeting every Mon, Wed,
Fri. I will be going to these regularly and can update people as the
schedule inevitably changes.
LIONEL
We have new IP address for the Power PC and PC Linux :
* Power PC (D0OLCTL02) : 131.225.231.118
* PC Linux (d0lxfpd01) : 131.225.231.117
Now, they are installed in the small control room.
ANDREW
Here is a (partial?) list of upcoming work to be completed before Mar. 1.
Feel free to make comments, add things to the list, complete things and
take them off the list, etc.
Work to do over weekend (by Feb. 19)
Christophe will provide status, likely any remaining work can be finished
Monday:
1) Cables a) Finish connecting and testing ribbon cables: done? P1+P2
should be hooked up to temporary cables to control room
b) Finish connecting red HV cables and run accross new cable tray
c) Finish laying 9 black cables
d) Connect 8 of the black cables to temporary cables running to control
room
e) Determine if cable lengths are long enough to bypass the detector for
20 LMR400 cables (we have approval from Kotcher to use the alternate
path, but there is a question about wheter these cables will be long
enough to go all the way around) Mike, did you measure?
Work for next week 2/19-2/25: Highest priority to get P1+P2+D1+D2 castles
fully operational and tested with detectors in P1U+P2U pseudodetectors in
D1+D2+P1I+P2I. Safety First!!!!
Manpower available: Lionel, Mario, Molina, Vitor full-time
Sergio, Christophe, Hans, Victor part-time
Mike smaller part-time
Newton full-time from 2/23
1) Lionel will start testing pot motion. Computer will be moved to small
control room on Monday. Note power should be off in tunnel when
testing not in progress!!! (Rack monitors+smoke detectors can be on).
All failure modes should be tested. Mario+Lionel+Newton should come up
with list of tests and send a round--everyone can add tests. Eventually
safeguards such as scalar rates and LVDT's should be built into
program alrams. Mario was going to test that IIB fuse will blow when
it should to simulate one failure mode. Right now, we cannot disable
power to IIB, which is a mistake that should be fixed with multiplexor
board. We likely will need someone in small control room to run
program, while someone in tunnel verifies results (need Christophe's
phone again, or a new cheap cordless phone). Lionel+Christophe should
ensure appropriate manpower available for these tests.
2) Mario+ Vitor will get power boxes ready (at least 3 new kind and 3 old
kind), and HV 4-1 splitter boxes including new filter and a discharge
spigot. These should be in and tested by end of the week. Also 2 of 18
filter boxes for MAPMT HV.
3) Bill Freeman said review for ORC will probably take about 3 weeks
after document so we need to get comments on document to Mario.
Review will eventually include pot motion safeguards as well as
electrical safety. Pot motion with beam in machine will not happen
until we and review committee are satisfied. Document should cover
isolation issues.
4) LV supplies needed for P1+P2 (P1 has already but not P2--should we
divert LV from D1/D2). Amplifier crates with 3 tested low offset
boards each needed for P1+P2 (Victor+Mario)
5) Detectors+Pseudodetectors need to be tested and 3m cables exchanged
for tested longer ones (Vitor)
6) LMB installed at P2 and tested (Mario, Lionel, Vitor)
7) Setting up and testing HV (Molina+Vitor, with consultation from Mario,
will require understanding of HV online controls--Christophe should
make sure this happens: might get help from Dehong or Vladimir).
8) Change D2 home position (Lionel)
9) Cameras in and tested (christophe, with mounting help from Lionel or BD)
10) Mario get more fans for tunnel racks to ensure proper ventillation
Lower priority, but still better to get next week if at all possible:
1) Some support for amplifier cables needed so they stay plugged in
properly (Mario,Lionel,Newton)
2) New LVDT's can be calibrated and installed as time and manpower
permits. Can Sergio and Molina do this since Lionel will be testing
pot motion.
3) More black cables: Andrew will check with vendor on black cable
arrival date if more arrive and manpower allows they should be layed
at the least the tunnel to collision hall ones. The ones across the
bridge through the pipe will not be done by us and may not be done
until the shutdown (same for 4 green LMB cables that have to pass
through the pipe).
4) A1+A2 electronics installation where possible (note right now we only
have 17 couplers and 14 drivers)
Work for last week 2/26-2/28.
1) Tunnel cleanup (garbage collection, returning of tools and supplies to
control room, verifying that no cables are in bad places) should be
done on 2/26. Power to RM can be left on, but other power should be
turned off through RM and power boxes in such a way that it can be
remotely turned on when needed.
2) More testing of pot motion, finishing of any remaining tasks
Between now and 28th:
1) Amplifier crates. Need 4 tested boards each. Needed 2/24 (Victor+Mario)
(bring boards back from tunnel on 2/23 am?)
2) Move LV supply to P2 2/23 Lionel
3) Construction of power boxes +splitters 2/22 Mario
4) Installation of power boxes +splitters in tunnel 2/23 Lionel
5) Connection of emergency line in tunnel 2/23 Lionel
6) Change D2 home position 2/23 Lionel
7) Pot tests begin 2/22 Lionel+Christophe
8) Continuing pot tests through 2/27 list of tests
9) TV cameras hooked up 2/23 (TV group) Cameras installed in tunnel 2/26 who?
10) finish pulling camera cables in control room (Friday afternoon) 2/23
Molina
11) prepare (12m cables)/test detectors+pseudos (Vitor,Mario) 2/22-2/23
12) install detectors (who?) by 2/25
13) HV crate installed 2/23 Ben Abraham--need to share Reynolds panel,PC?
Dehong will do Python code 2/26
14) Install+test LMB Mario+Lionel 2/26 (requires detectors+HV)
15) Support for amplifier cables 2/27 (Mario+Lionel)
16) Inspection of tunnel--tools out, clean up cables+cable ties, pots in
out position, power off to LVDT,LV,Drivers using RM, list of what electronics is
installed
17) Hook low voltage to RM for monitoring (Mario 2/27) other monitoring?
Lower Priority
1) Put encoders on A side (Sergio+Molina)
2) Finish installing A1 electronics (Lionel+Newton)
3) Install electronics (drivers...) at A2 if arrive (shipped
2/20) (Lionel+Newton)
4) finish pulling LMR 400 cables in collision hall (Hans+Molina)
5) finish pulling green cables for LMBs in collision hall-unpull 2 cables
through detector?
Other questions:
Any short cables missing?
P1 black to green cables replugged?
Ventillation adequate?
Unistrut for driver crate?
Umbrellas?
Can we move pots Mar 1-5?
Do we have approval to turn on power in tunnel after Mar 1?
