A larger growing suite of matrix element generator such as
ALPGEN,
CompHep,
Grace,
MadGraph, ...
has come into existence. Some of them have been integrated into the
cdfSim or cdfGen executables for direct use within the CDF Run II offline
framework.
Examples are:
Grappa,
WbbGen or
Vecbos.
Others such as
AlpGen or
CompHep
are currently not part of cdfSim or cdfGen.
Since the integration of new MC generators into the CDF framework requires a
significant overhead in implementation and maintenance, we currently
encourage the standalone MC generation. Read a
note by Henry Frisch
on the "Merits of standalone MC generation".
Matrix element generator level MC data can be produced standalone
by writing the output in
StdHep format
(HEPEVT) and importing these generator level data into the CDF Run II
offline framework using
hepevt2hepg. Recent instructions to create the executable are posted
here.
Large generator level MC files can for the benefits of the whole
collaboration also be imported into the CDF Data File Catalog (contact
Frank Wuerthwein ,
Manfred Paulini and
Marjorie Shapiro).
We also plan to make the source code of individual matrix element
generators available in the CDF repository for standalone MC generation.
