Image
In
1545, the governor of the provincial town Bassano del Grappa commissioned
Jacopo to paint The Miraculous Draught of Fishes. Jacopo, however,
did not invent the image. He looked to earlier
depictions of the story for ideas. This was standard practice in the
Renaissance and, in fact, Jacopo's painting was one in a long line of
"copies," or variations on a theme.
