13734 synuclein, gamma Related Genes Mus musculus
SP_COMMENT PTM:Phosphorylated. Phosphorylation by GRK5 appears to occur on residues distinct from the residue phosphorylated by other kinases., developmental stage:Developmentally expressed in primary sensory neurons and motoneurons. In trigeminal ganglia, expression increases between embryonic day 10 and day 12. High levels are maintained here throughout later stages of development and in adulthood., function:Plays a role in neurofilament network integrity. May be involved in modulating axonal architecture during development and in the adult. In vitro, increases the susceptibility of neurofilament-H to calcium-dependent proteases. May also function in modulating the keratin network in skin. Activates the MAPK and Elk-1 signal transduction pathway., similarity:Belongs to the synuclein family., subcellular location:Cytoplasm, perinuclear region (By similarity). Centrosome (By similarity). Spindle (By similarity). Note=Associated with centrosomes in several interphase cells. In mitotic cells, localized to the poles of the spindle., subunit:May be a centrosome-associated protein., tissue specificity:Highly expressed in brain, particularly in the substantia nigra. Also expressed in the corpus callosum, heart, skeletal muscle, ovary, testis, colon and spleen. Weak expression in pancreas, kidney and lung. Expressed predominantly in the cell bodies and axons of primary sensory neurons, sympathetic neurons and motoneurons.,

GENERIF_SUMMARY The effects of gamma-synuclein deficiency on motor and peripheral sensory neurons were studied. Gamma-synuclein is dispensable for the development and function of the nervous system., Immunohistochemistry demonstrates accelerated accumulation of gamma-synuclein in gracile axonal dystrophy mice. Gamma-synuclein appears in the gracile nucleus at 3 weeks of age and was maintained until 32 weeks., neurons with normally high levels of synuclein(s) can develop and survive normally in the absence of any of these proteins, These data indicate the chaperone activity of SNCG on stimulation of steroid receptor signaling in mammary gland., Differences between alpha- and gamma-synuclein secondary structure propensities.,
