Computers
The ITP computer system currently consists of 7 computers. These are:
-
max - Max is the most powerful computer at the ITP. It is an SGI
4D/440 with 4 R3000 processors, 64MB of memory, and a 600MB disk.
-
insti - Insti is an SGI indigo with an R4000 processor, 80MB of
memory, an 8-bit color display, and 3GB of disk space. It is the
server for the 5 indigos which have no disks.
-
tutef, orthe, oreti, calph, ysics - These are the five diskless
indigos. They each have an R4000 processor, 48MB of memory, and an
8-bit color display.
-
stony, brook - These are two R4000 indigos, each with a 420 MB
internal disk. Each has 48MB of memory and an 8-bit color display.
The names of the first 6 indigos can be remembered by taking the
phrase ``Institute for Theoretical Physics'' and breaking it up into
five letter segments: ``insti'', ``tutef'', ``orthe'', ``oreti'',
``calph'', ``ysics''.
