Use of digitalisize and digitalize

Editor—Aronson makes a good case for using the dreaded z when spelling words.1 But I know I shall be resistant, having long struggled to expunge the Americanisms from my spellchecker. Why not accept the French influence?

But digitalize? When using digitalis surely we should digitalisize. This would leave us free to digitalize when treating the patient as a number rather than a person and to digitize when examining the rectum.
