Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Mott Community College would receive a federal grant for $411,567 to fund the Career Path Enhancement Project. As part of the Technology Opportunities Program, the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded the grant to Mott Community College to assist in the expansion and improvement of all the Community Technology Centers.
“The Community Technology Centers have played a critical role in preparing Flint residents for employment in today’s high-technology job sector,” said Kildee. “These funds will enable Community Technology Centers to attract more visitors by providing better access to services and programs that will improve their job skills.”
The Career Path Enhancement Project will help Community Technology Centers improve their current efforts to address socioeconomic challenges in the Flint community. Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint established five Community Technology Centers to address the technological disparities that exist within low-income areas. These centers provide low-income residents with an opportunity to develop computer skills that will enable them to compete in today’s economy. In addition, these centers provide residents with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills and learn more about small business development. The Community Technology Centers are committed to helping low-income residents achieve financial stability. |
