Share the trail; Spare the trail
These trails in the park are open to horseback riding and Upper Ridge Trail NJ is open to horse-drawn carriages. These trails are also open to hiking. Hikers should be alert toriders; Hikers must yield to riders. If horses approach, hikers should step off the trail and stand quietly until they pass. Bicycles and motorized vehicles are NOT permitted on these trails. Please protect the environment by riding and hiking only on the marked trails, and crossing streams only on the bridges.

 

CONASHAUGH VIEW TRAIL

Conashaugh View Trail offers 9 miles of trail for hikers and for horseback riders with their own horses. Hikers are permitted on these trails also. Hikers should be alert to, and yield to, riders. Bicycles and motorized vehicles are NOT permitted. Please protect the environment by riding and hiking only on the marked trails, and crossing streams only on the bridges.

Directions to Conashaugh Trail
The trailhead and parking lot are on Conashaugh Road, which intersects Milford Road (SR 2001) 4.2 miles south of Rt. 6 in Milford PA.

From the NORTH, take Milford Road (Route 2001) 4.2 south from the intersection of Route 2001 and U.S. Rt. 6 in Milford (0.9 miles south of the intersection of Route 2001 and Raymondskill Falls Road). Turn left onto Conashaugh Road. The trailhead and parking lot are ahead on the left just where the paving ends on the road.

Cars without trailers may take Raysmondskill Falls Road from Route 209 to Route 2001. Raymondskill Falls Road is not recommended for cars pulling trailers.

From the SOUTH, take Route 209 to the traffic light at Route 739 in Dingmans Ferry. Turn west (away from the river) onto Route 739 and continue 2.4 miles to the 4-way stop at Milford Road (SR 2001.) Turn right onto Milford Road, and continure 1.3 miles to Long Meadow Road.(There is a chapel on the corner.) Turn right and continue 2.1 miles onto the dirt section of Long Meadow Road and around a bend to the left to the trailer parking lot on the right.

 

UPPER RIDGE TRAIL

Upper Ridge Trail near Layton NJ Upper Ridge Trail winds approximately 5 miles through peaceful woods, open fields and past isolated ponds. For carriage access to this gated roadway, call the recreation area at (570) 426-2435 prior to arrival at the trail.

Directions to Upper Ridge Trail
From MILFORD PA: From the Route 206 bridge at Montague NJ, take Route 206 south 2.5 miles, and bear right onto Route 645 south (Layton-Hainesville Road.) Continue .8 mile and turn right onto Route 646 (Jager Road.) Continue .8 mile to a field on the left, just beyond an overgrown road, across from a one-story ranch house (#30 Jager Road) but BEFORE Strong Lane on the right. Park in the field on the LEFT. Enter the trail at the left back of the field. From DINGMANS FERRY PA: Cross Dingmans Bridge, continue 3 miles to Layton NJ and turn left onto Route 645 (Layton-Hainesville Road.) Continue 2.7 miles to Route 646 (Jager Road) and turn left. Continue .8 mile to a field on the left, just beyond an overgrown road, across from a one-story ranch house (#30 Jager Road) but BEFORE Strong Lane on the right. Park in the field on the LEFT. Enter the trail at the left back of the field. From NEWTON NJ: From the intersection of Routes 206 and 15 in Newton, take Route 206 north 11.8 miles and turn left onto Route 675. Continue .1 mile to the stop sign, and turn right onto Route 645 (Layton-Hainesville Road.) Continue .2 miles and turn left onto Route 646 (Jager Road). Continue .8 mile to a field on the left, just beyond an overgrown road, across from a one-story ranch house (#30 Jager Road) but BEFORE Strong Lane on the right. Park in the field on the LEFT. Enter the trail at the left back of the field.

... that shad have made a comeback in the Delaware River, due to pollution control. This member of the herring family lives its adult life in the ocean, but travels up rivers and streams to spawn. Each spring, anglers follow the "shad run" up the Delaware River to catch these hard-fighting fish.
