DUTIES: Essential -- Reporting to the Network Operation Manager and Coordinator, perform a wide variety of network development, maintenance, and installation tasks. Provide technical support to network technical support staff and users. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on baseband CSMA/CD and token passing networks, including the IEEE802.3 series, LocalTalk, and X3T9 at the media level. Debug and isolate complex IP/IPX/DECnet/AppleTalk and other network protocol problems--both routed and bridged. Configure and document network equipment installations. Maintain ATM switching equipment, and FDDI and IEEE802.3 switching hardware. Use complex analysis equipment for debugging network anomalies such as Oscilloscopes, Time-Domain Reflectometers, IEEE802.3, X3T9, LocalTalk, and T1 analyzers and twisted pair station cable characterization equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Essential -- Must have an electronics background, possess a strong working knowledge of IEEE802.3, X3T9, and LocalTalk networks, understand bridging and routing concepts in depth, have worked with and understand IP/IPX/AppleTalk/DECnet (Phase IV) protocols. Must have experience with Shiva Fastpaths and be exceptionally strong with AppleTalk on both LocalTalk and IEEE802.3, have experience with Cisco routers running multiple protocols, and have familiarity with and be proficient in using protocol analyzers for network analysis. Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of technical and administrative personnel to communicate objectives. Demonstrated strong oral communication and writing skills. Self-starting and motivated to get jobs done. Knowledge of and ability to use Macintosh, 386-based processor PC, and UNIX platforms. Familiarity with Word, Excel, MacDraw Pro, FileMaker Pro and Microsoft Project or MacProject (or equivalent). Must have and maintain a valid California driver's license. Marginal -- Knowledge of T1 for both voice and data. Understanding of ISDN and remote network access protocols such as SLIP, PPP, and HDLC. Fiber optic testing and installation experience. Some programming and scripting skills desirable.
