Mississippi Ag Report Volume 02-13 Released: July 15, 2002 This report is best viewed with a monospace font. Featured Statistics: Cotton: Biotechnology Varieties, Soybeans: Biotechnology Varieties, Soybeans: Percent Double Cropped, Pecans: Production and Price Poultry, Fertilizer Consumption, Cropland Rented for Cash Wheat Survey and Estimating Procedures Objective yield and Farm Operator surveys were conducted between June 25 and July 5 to gather information on expected yield as of July 1. The Objective Yield survey was conducted in ten States that accounted for 69 percent of the winter wheat production. The farm operator survey was conducted primarily by telephone with some use of mail and personal interviewers. Approximately 8,000 producers were interviewed during the survey period and asked questions about the probable yield on their operation. Theses growers will be surveyed throughout the growing season to provide indications of average yields as the season progresses. Data were reviewed for reasonableness and consistency with historical estimates. The survey data were also reviewed considering weather patterns and crop progress compared to previous months and previous years.
