When you are referred to a local health care provider for outpatient care, you should be prepared to pay the bill in full at the time of service. Credit card payments are accepted by most facilities. Obtain a receipt and request a written diagnosis or description of the problem and the treatment given so that you can file a claim with your insurance carrier for reimbursement. In a possibly life threatening situation time is of the essence, it is worthwhile familiarizing yourselves with the location of the various hospitals, especially the one near your home.
