Warden Message: Islamabad Shia Rally Today

U.S. Consulate General Karachi issued the following Warden Message on October 25, 2005:

The Embassy would like to forward the following advisory from its Regional Security Office:

“Police Officials have advised that they have received reports from a special branch officer that today (October 25) at 1430 hours, a Shia rally would take place at the Shia mosque known as "Qasar-e-Zainabia" located at St. 58, G-6/4, Islamabad.

The route of the rally will begin at St. 58 and continue on to Garden Road, past the Polyclinic Hospital where they will take a turn on to service road and end at Imambargah (the main Shia mosque) which is located in G-6/2 Islamabad.

The rally is religious in nature and expected to be very peaceful. Police have advised that about 250-300 people may participate in the rally. The rally is scheduled to start at 1430 hours from G-6/4 and terminate in Imambargah in G-6/2 at 1700 hours. It is recommended that all Mission Employees and American Community members be advised to avoid the Polyclinic Hospital area and Garden Road between 1400 hours and 1730 hours today.”
