INOUYE ANNOUNCES NOMINEES
TO U.S. SERVICES ACADEMIES

WASHINGTON, D.C.–United States Senator Daniel K. Inouye announced today his nominations to the United States service academies for the class entering in July 2000. Nominees were selected on the basis of test scores, academic records, letters of recommendation, extra-curricular activities, and personal interviews.

"I am most pleased and honored to recommend these fine young students to our nation's service academies," Senator Inouye said. "They have demonstrated leadership, excellence and a sense of duty, and I am confident they will represent the State of Hawaii and their respective communities with dignity."

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY PRINCIPAL NOMINEE:

  • Philemon Sakamoto of Hilo High School, son of Bruce and Isa Sakamoto.

    Competitive Alternates:

  • Andrew Tamanaha of Damien Memorial High School, son of Morris and Judith Tamanaha.

  • John Baker of King Kekaulike High School, son of James and Catherine Baker.

  • Krista Yorita of St. Andrew's Priory, daughter of Carl and Patricia Yorita.

    U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY PRINCIPAL NOMINEE:

  • Emily LaCaille of Kalaheo High School, daughter of Jon and Bette LaCaille.

  • Albert Lee of Mid-Pacific Institute, son of David and Sarah Lee.

  • Skyler Munekata of Punahou School, son of William and Judith Munekata.
