Abstract

The National Center for the Study of Wilson's Disease was established to study the genetic, biochemical and clinical aspects of Wilson's disease. This hereditary disorder is characterized by the accumulation of excessive and lethally toxic concentrations of copper in the liver and brain. The professional personnel of the Center provide consultative services to physicians and patients with respect to diagnosis and management of Wilson's disease, Menkes' disease, and other disorders of copper metabolism. The research of the Center is directed toward understanding the genetic and biochemical nature of these disorders. A brochure describing Wilson's disease is available from the Center.
