Description: Annual, aromatic herb, with short or long hairs on stems, and branched below. Leaves spear to pear-shaped, with the margins of the upper leaves spiny. Inflorescence is head-like, with bracts longer than wide, and base blunt or straight. The flower has a calyx with long or short hairs, is 2-lipped, and has spine-tipped lobes. The corolla is funnel-shaped, white, and 2-lipped, with the upper lip 2-lobed or smooth, and the lower lip 3-lobed. The fruit is smooth and ovoid. 

Distribution:

Habitat: Heavy clay, alkaline, serpentinite.

Flowering Period: Blooms April - July.
