Interesting
yellowtail tag returns
.
- In lobster bait - Our forth lottery winner, Gary Mataronas
purchased yellowtail racks from New Bedford and found a
tag while filling his bait bags.
- In monkfish bellies - Four separate fishermen have called
in tags found in the bellies of monkfish.
- In the parking lot of Bergies Seafood, New Bedford
- On the trail at Nomans Island, south of Martha's Vineyard
- Wildlife biologist Janette Tebow speculates that the tagged
fish was eaten by an osprey or gull and the indigestible
tag was left behind during the birds stop over on the island.

Did you know?
Putting a tag in a yellowtail flounder is a lot like getting
your tongue pierced...the pin goes straight through muscle
and it only hurts for a minute.
When yellowtail flounder are first hatched, the eyes are
symmetrical - there is an eye on each side of its head. As
it grows the fish flattens out and, in most cases, the left
eye slowly moves over to the right side of its head.
