DOE Regional Partner Initiates Carbon Dioxide Injection Study in Virginia
A Department of Energy team of regional partners has begun injecting carbon dioxide into coal seams in the Central Appalachian Basin to determine the feasibility of CO2 storage in unmineable coal seams and the potential for enhanced coalbed methane recovery.   Read More >

DOE Award Results in Several Patents, Potential Increased Coal Recovery
A seven year, $13 million cooperative effort with the Office of Fossil Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory has resulted in the successful demonstration of a novel technology that addresses a problem plaguing coal operators and environmentalists alike: separating fine coal particles from water and their ultimate use as a significant energy resource.  Read More >

SECA Fuel Cell Program Moves Two Key Projects Into Next Phase

OFFICE OF FOSSIL ENERGY

Ensuring that we can continue to rely on clean, affordable energy from our traditional fuel resources is the primary mission of DOE's Office of Fossil Energy. Fossil fuels supply 85% of the nation's energy, and we are working on such priority projects as pollution-free coal plants, more productive oil and gas fields, and the continuing readiness of federal emergency oil stockpiles.
