The Surprise

daffodils We raked the leaves from the garden bed,
Daddy and I,
And what do you think we found under them?
Little bunches of straight green stem ! That s what we found in the garden bed,
Daddy and I.

And one of the stems had a fat little head!
And what do you think my Daddy said?
He said it would grow fatter still,
And soon we'd find a daffodil
Nodding there instead.
That's really what my Daddy said
When we raked the leaves from the garden bed.
