Visitor Center activities for September include special "Community Day" activities, model rocket launches, video and lecture presentations, and tours of the Visitor Center and Goddard Space Flight Center. The following are brief descriptions for inclusion in your calendar of events: Sunday, Sept. 3, 1 p.m. MODEL ROCKET LAUNCH Many people discovered the fun of model rocket launching this summer and the fun continues this fall. Launch your model rockets at the Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center where, for more than 16 years, people of all ages have enjoyed launching their own model rockets. Bring your own rocket or just come out and enjoy watching the other rocket enthusiasts. All launches are monitored for safety and are held weather permitting. Saturday, Sept. 9, 1 p.m. Saturday Videos: "Supernova" The Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center will be showing the video "Supernova" on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. This 10-minute video uses computer graphics, photographic images, and interviews with scientist to investigate the most spectacular event in the life of a star. In a supernova, the entire star explodes, blasting most of its stellar material into space. To find out more about this exciting phenomena, come to the showing at the Visitor Center. Sunday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. GODDARD COMMUNITY DAY Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center is hosting "Community day" and we want you to share in the fun and excitement. The Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for special events throughout the day. Buses offering special guided tours of the Goddard center will leave the Visitor Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tours will include the Spacecraft Systems Development and Integration Facility, Spacecraft Test and Integration Facility, the Goddard Spacecraft Fabrication Facility, the Hubble Space Telescope Control Center, and the NASA Communication (NASCOM) Switching Center. Demonstrations and presentations will be provided throughout the day. A special model rocket launch will be conducted at 3 p.m. All events are free. For more information, call (301)286-8981. -30-
