Title : Description : Keywords : Author : Unknown ----------------------------------------------- Resolution No. 2/99-3 ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON IMMUNIZATION PRACTICES VACCINES FOR CHILDREN PROGRAM VACCINES TO PREVENT HAEMOPHILUS INFLUENZAE TYPE B The purpose of this resolution is to consolidate all of the previous resolutions pertaining to Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine into a single resolution. This resolution does not make any substantive changes to any of those previous resolutions, except the following: 1. Clarifies catch-up vaccination. 2. Clarifies interchangeability. VFC resolutions 2/94-5, 2/94-6, 6/94-10 and 6/94-14 are repealed and replaced by the following: Haemophilus influenzae type b Eligible Groups Recommended Haemophilus influenzae type b Vaccine Schedule All children who are 6 weeks of age through 5 years of age. The recom recommended schedule for children includes 3 or 4 doses of a Hib containing vaccine by age 2 yearsmended schedule for children includes 3 or 4 doses of a Hib containing vaccine by age 2 years,, depending on the specific vaccine. The Hib doses should be given at the following ages: Schedule A Schedule B 2 months 2 months 4 months 4 months 6 months 12-15 months - Booster 12-15 months - Booster Schedule A should be used for the following vaccines: HibTiter®, ACTHib®, Tetramune®, or other Hib vaccines containing HbOC or PRP-T. Schedule B should be used for the following vaccines: PedvaxHib®, Comvax®, or other Hib vaccines containing PRP-OMP. The Hib products approved for infant vaccination are considered interchangeable for primary as well as booster vaccination. However, mixed vaccine sequences in the primary series should follow schedule A. NOTE: Use of brand names is not meant to preclude the use of other licensed Hib vaccines. Catch-Up Vaccination The ACIP recommends Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine for all children through 5 years of age. If Hib vaccination is not initiated by 6 months of age, use the following schedule: Age (months) at first vaccination Primary series Booster 7-11 2 doses, 2 mos apart 12-18 mos 12-14 1 dose 2 mos later 15-59 1 dose ---- Page 1 of 3 ----------------------------------------------- Resolution No. 2/99-3 Dosage Intervals Schedule Minimum Age Minimum interval from dose 1 to 2 Minimum interval from dose 2 to 3 Minimum interval from dose 3 to 4 A 6 weeks 1 month 1 month ¶ B 6 weeks 1 month ¶ ¶ The booster dose of Hib vaccine which is recommended following the primary vaccination series should be administered no earlier than 12 months of age and at least 2 months after the previous dose of Hib vaccine. The combined hepatitis B/Hib vaccine may be used whenever administration of any components of the combination are indicated and if other components are not contraindicated; or the separate Hib and hepatitis B vaccines may be used. Recommended Dosages Contraindications and Precautions The following conditions are contraindications to the administration of Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine: 1. Allergy to vaccine components Anaphylactic reaction to the vaccine or a constituent of the vaccine. 2. Acute, moderate or severe illnesses with or without fever Refer to product package inserts.
