Description/Abstract This book gives a presentation of the state-of-the-art knowledge on chemistry and technology of producing natural gas substitutes from coal and oil.^ The author places equal emphasis on chemistry and technology of both coal and oil gasification.^ Commercial processes and evolutional technologies having potential applications in the production of natural gas substitutes are described.^ The first two chapters contain information on properties of coal and oil which are used as feedstocks in the production of natural gas substitutes.^ The third chapter covers the chemistry of coal gasification which includes chemical reactions, thermodynamics, kinetics and mechanisms.^ The following two chapters deal with catalysis of coal gasification, and commercial and developmental coal gasficiation processes respectively.^ The next two chapters describe the chemistry of oil gasification and oil gasification processes, while the final chapter contains information on gas purification, shift conversion, methanation and interchangeability of synthetic gas with natural gas.
