XRD Sample Preparation

Sample preparation is intensive, a sample which is normally collected on a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filter is placed in a centrifuge tube, the filter and any organic materials are dissolved with tetrahydrofuran (THF), and any particulate which was collected on the filter is suspended in the THF using an ultrasonic bath. A muffle furnace can also be used in place of the THF. Another technique, direct-on-filter (DOF) minimizes sample preparation and is discussed further l.
