Direct reaction contributions are not 6407 1451 32 included. 6407 1451 33 6407 1451 34 Exit particles considered are neutrons, protons, alpha particles, 6407 1451 35 and deuterons. Transmission coefficients for neutrons and protons 6407 1451 36 were obtained from an optical potential for rare earth elements 6407 1451 37 developed by F. Dietrich and using the ECIS code. The 6407 1451 38 transmission coefficients for alpha particles were obtained from 6407 1451 39 the optical potential of Avrigeanu, et.al. Those for deuterons 6407 1451 40 are from the optical potential of Lohr and Haeberli. Alpha and 6407 1451 41 deuteron transmission coefficients were calculated using the 6407 1451 42 SCAT2 routine. An enhanced generalized Lorentzian is assumed for 6407 1451 43 the E1 photon strength function, and is normalized to measured or 6407 1451 44 systematic values of the average total s-wave radiation width at 6407 1451 45 the neutron binding energy. 6407 1451 46 6407 1451 47 Backshifted Fermi gas level density parameters are derived from 6407 1451 48 measured s-wave resonance spacings where available. For other 6407 1451 49 nuclei, systematic values are adopted. At low energies a constant 6407 1451 50 temperature form is adopted, and the two formulae are matched at 6407 1451 51 an energy between the backshift and the neutron binding energy so 6407 1451 52 as to give the best possible fit to known spectroscopic levels. 6407 1451 53 6407 1451 54 Discrete levels are taken from the Reference Input Parameter 6407 1451 55 Library (RIPL) with additional evaluations performed by R.
