New go-live date: August 21

A message from the CRIS project director: Aug. 21 is the new go-live date for CRIS, the NIH Clinical Research Information System. The new date, a three-week extension of the original implementation date, was endorsed by the CRIS Steering Committee on July 23.

The extra time will allow the CRIS project teams and stakeholders to test the system more fully (including deployed devices and printers), to review and answer all questions raised in user acceptance testing, and to make sure that department staff who'll use the system have a chance to experience and better understand how CRIS will affect daily operations and processes. CRIS team members will work with individual departments until go-live to review all processes affected by CRIS implementation and iron out any issues.

CRIS will be turned on for limited use the week of Aug. 2. "View-only" privileges will be activated for staff who've completed training and have received a CRIS access code. CRIS will be available from the standard clinical desktop machines alongside MIS. During the weeks before Aug. 21, CRIS will be available for some result retrieval functions and for users to practice navigating the interface. Most of the historical information has been backloaded into CRIS and new results will be 24 hours behind real time. CRIS will not be our official system, CRIS and MIS will not be synchronized, and users will not be able to enter orders. We can't provide a "live" level of support during this time, but it's a good opportunity to become more familiar with how the system looks and works.

Thank you for your continued patience as we move to CRIS activation. If you haven't yet completed training, please sign up as soon as possible. Call 301-435-5077 for details. If you've completed training and want assistance in keeping your CRIS skills fresh, visit the CRIS practice lab.
