The St. Lawrence Island polynya as seen in composite satellite imagery made by combining Thermal Infrared and Radar using a technique called Hue-Light-Saturation (HLS). The colder, thicker ice is green and the warmer ice with open water is yellow. The grey land in the picture is St. Lawrence Island.
