The OSHA and NAILM Alliance addresses providing NAILM members and others in
the institutional linen industry, in particular small businesses, with information, guidance, and
access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. The Alliance
focuses on reducing and preventing exposure to ergonomic and fire hazards and hazardous materials
(HAZMAT) and motor vehicle safety. The Alliance's goals include:
Training and education:
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing training and education programs regarding
ergonomic and fire hazards, HAZMAT and motor vehicle safety, and to provide expertise in
communicating the information to employers and employees in the institutional linen industry.
Outreach and communication:
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention
of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information
(e.g. print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools and OSHA's and NAILM's Web sites) to
employers and employees in the industry.
- Share information among OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals regarding
NAILM's best practices or effective approaches and publicize results through outreach by NAILM and
through OSHA- or NAILM –developed materials, training programs, workshops, seminars, and lectures.
Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
- Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on
institutional linen industry issues such as ergonomic and fire hazards and motor vehicle safety to
help forge innovative solutions in the workplace.

Activities and Events
- June 24-25, 2005: The World Educational Congress for Laundering and Drycleaning, Orange County
Convention Center, Orange County, Florida.
- June 25, 2005: Charlene Vespi, Program Manager, USF Safety Florida Consultation Program, made
a presentation to more than 130 attendees on OSHA's confined space requirements and other safety and health
topics related to the laundering and drycleaning industry. Ms. Vespi also distributed material on
the Alliance from the OSHA and NAILM Alliance exhibit booth.
