The COLA conference has been held every 2 years since 1991. The first conference was held in Oak Ridge, TN, USA in 1991, the second in Knoxville, TN, USA in 1993, the third in Strasburg (France) in 1995, the fourth in Monterey, CA, USA in 1997, the fifth was in Gottingen (Germany) in 1999. The sixth Ibaraki (Japan) , the seventh took place in Hersonissos, Crete (Greece). This year we are pleased to be the host for the 8th International meeting in 2005, which will be held for the first time in Banff (Canada) COLA is an extremely interdisciplinary conference. The topics cover a wide range of scientific research that often times bridges the gap between basic science and various applications of laser ablation.
