Question
I am wondering if the atom smasher can cause any catastrophic events such as the earth being sucked into a black hole? Before investing into a machine like this, did they think of any consequences it can have on our earth?
There is no danger whatever. Any black holes produced with the Large Hadron Collider are extremely small and disappear within a very small fraction of a second. In addition, we know that natural processes involving high-energy cosmic rays produce the same effects, and quite obviously the Earth is still here. These effects were certainly considered before the machine was built, to ensure that there was no risk for us or our planet.
