Perseid Overnight Canoe Trips
Saturday - Sunday
August 2 - 3, 2008

THIS TRIP IS FULL

As an increasing number of open spaces are converted to urban or suburban areas, the beauty and wonder of the night sky is disappearing. The universe is becoming obscured by the dull electric glow of every street lamp, house light and neon sign that casts its light into the night sky, making places of undisturbed darkness like Lake Roosevelt vital and unique. The annual Perseid meteor shower is coming and here is your chance to view them unencumbered by unnatural light.

Join Park Rangers and volunteers for an overnight canoe trip to watch the Perseid Meteor Showers, one of the best showers of the year.

fire fighter looking at a stand of ponderosas that have become a wildfire danger

Did You Know?
Fire is a natural part of Lake Roosevelt's dry forest and desert environment. Park fire fighters, to protect nearby landowners, manage the forest by extinguishing any wildfire, as well as thin, pile up, and burn excess vegetation in winter. Prescribed fires may be lit to burn what is left.
