POST-DOCTORAL/RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (Anticipated)

(Grant-funded position available for one year, continuation of the position depends on the availability of funds)


The Department of Agronomy and Environmental Management, LSU Agricultural Center is seeking a highly motivated and responsible individual to conduct molecular genetics and genomics investigations in several grass species that are important for coastal restoration and reclamation. Primary responsibilities of this position include organizing and conducting molecular work in the laboratory and greenhouse, data analysis, and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals. Emphasis is on genome mapping and functional genomic analysis of abiotic stress tolerance and seed production related attributes in unique coastal plant species to improve their successful establishment in the coastal areas. The incumbent is expected to interact with plant breeders, applied ecologists, plant pathologist, plant physiologists, and tissue culturist to develop new research initiatives that are critical for development of superior wetland plants.


QUALIFICATION: M.S. or Ph. D. in Plant Breeding, Molecular Genetics or related field with a strong organizational, written and oral communication, and computer skills. The candidate must have solid hands-on experience in a wide range of molecular biology protocols. Experience of working in small teams, as well as an ability to work independently, is essential. Knowledge and experience in proteomics and microarray is desirable.


SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.
