Message-ID: <45341AED.2080803@pangalactic.us> Greetings, PanGalaxians! Some of you may not even remember subscribing to this list, so in case you are no longer interested in PanGalactic, you can unsubscribe by visiting: (See the unsubscribe option at the bottom of the page -- you don't need to remember your password.) If you *are* still interested in PanGalactic (a.k.a. "PGEF", the Pan Galactic Engineering Framework), consider this a pre-announcement of a pre-release. ;) PanGalactic is now at a point where it's at least mildly interesting to play with, and I am doing regular test builds of the client for Windows and Mac. The Windows client works fine; the Mac version is buggy, but is shaping up. I haven't done any Linux packages yet, but for you Pythonistas, I do have "easy_install" working (I *think*), and I definitely need some testers for that, too. Basically, I'm be looking for folks who are interested in beginning to kick the tires and who might consider contributing to the project as well. My TODO list is a mile long! I still have a few things to finish before the actual "pre-release release", which I hope to get done this week: (1) I am in the process of converting the CVS repository to Bazaar (bzr) so that it will be significantly easier to give developers access and to manage branches, etc. For those not familiar with Bazaar: . (2) I need to set up a better PGEF project web site, which I will host on pangalactic.us (my site). (3) I need to edit and update the documentation, which is currently very sketchy as to user operations. Installation and some start-up procedures are in the INSTALL file and general PGEF concepts are in docs/PgefManual.txt, but those are more for developers than users, and even developers need to know how the app is actually supposed to work for a user. :) If you are eager to play and don't mind getting your hands dirty, you can download the nightly tarball at: This is the complete source code, including client and server. Feel free to send questions to this list. I'll send another message to the list when the client installers, docs, and source check-out are available. I owe you an email from back in August. I've been traveling and writting code, which always interferes with keeping up on email. I'm still interested in pangalactic, but looking at it is on a backburner for the moment. I've been focusing on projects which are using the enthought package. Their code base is getting better at a steady clip. The weakest point remains documentation. They really need a good tutorial that is up to date with all of their features. I'd like to bring up the sprint idea again. A trip to Austin would be great. Would you be interested in participating? Would you be interested in participating? Yep, I would be interested. It's time I learned more about enthought, and I'd like to see if I can make pangalactic work with it. Cheers, Steve
